Preparation Steps
- Begin by cutting the Italian bread into 1-inch cubes. Spread the cubes out on a baking sheet or large bowl to allow them to dry slightly.
- In a medium-sized mixing bowl, combine the softened cream cheese, mayonnaise, milk, Dijon mustard, garlic powder, and black pepper. Blend until smooth and well-incorporated.
- Gently combine the chopped deli ham and shredded cheddar cheese in another bowl. Set this mixture aside.
- Add the cubed bread to the creamy mixture and toss carefully until every piece is evenly coated.
- Gently fold the ham and cheese mixture into the bread mixture using a spatula.
- Grease a 9x13 inch baking dish with butter and pour the combined mixture into the dish, spreading it out evenly.
- In a small bowl, mix the remaining melted butter with poppy seeds and dried minced onion. Drizzle over the top of the casserole.
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and bake for 30 to 40 minutes until golden brown and bubbly.
- Remove from the oven and let it rest for 5 to 10 minutes before serving.
