Method

Preparation Steps
  1. Begin by cutting the Italian bread into 1-inch cubes. Spread the cubes out on a baking sheet or large bowl to allow them to dry slightly.
  2. In a medium-sized mixing bowl, combine the softened cream cheese, mayonnaise, milk, Dijon mustard, garlic powder, and black pepper. Blend until smooth and well-incorporated.
  3. Gently combine the chopped deli ham and shredded cheddar cheese in another bowl. Set this mixture aside.
  4. Add the cubed bread to the creamy mixture and toss carefully until every piece is evenly coated.
  5. Gently fold the ham and cheese mixture into the bread mixture using a spatula.
  6. Grease a 9x13 inch baking dish with butter and pour the combined mixture into the dish, spreading it out evenly.
  7. In a small bowl, mix the remaining melted butter with poppy seeds and dried minced onion. Drizzle over the top of the casserole.
  8. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and bake for 30 to 40 minutes until golden brown and bubbly.
  9. Remove from the oven and let it rest for 5 to 10 minutes before serving.
