Baking Steps
- In a mixing bowl, combine warm milk, sugar, and active dry yeast. Let sit for about 5 minutes until frothy.
- Whisk in eggs and softened butter. Gradually add flour and salt until dough forms.
- Knead dough on a floured surface for about 10 minutes until smooth.
- Place dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm place for about 1 hour.
- Meanwhile, heat milk for custard in a saucepan. Whisk together sugar, egg yolks, cornstarch, and vanilla in a bowl.
- Slowly whisk in hot milk, return to saucepan, and cook until thickened, about 5-7 minutes. Let cool.
- Punch down dough, divide into 12 pieces, and fill each with custard and chocolate chips.
- Place filled dough in greased muffin tin, cover, and let rise for another 30 minutes.
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake for about 20 minutes until golden brown.
- Cool slightly in muffin tin for 5 minutes then transfer to a wire rack.
