Step-by-Step Instructions
  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine chicken thighs with vegetable oil, garlic, ginger, brown sugar, and salt. Marinate for at least 30 minutes or overnight for richer flavor.
  2. In a separate bowl, mix white pepper powder, salt, brown sugar, and five-spice powder. Taste and adjust as necessary.
  3. Coat marinated chicken with cornstarch in a bowl, ensuring each piece is evenly covered.
  4. Preheat air fryer to 350°F (176°C). Place coated chicken in basket without overcrowding. Spray lightly with oil. Cook for 10 minutes, flip, spray again, and increase temp to 400°F (200°C) for 5 more minutes.
  5. Transfer cooked chicken to a serving bowl, sprinkle with half of the spice mix, toss gently, and garnish with basil, chili peppers, and lemon wedges.
