  • 500 grams Beef Sirloin or Flank Steak Thinly sliced
For the Batter
  • 1 cup Cornstarch Alternatively, use gluten-free flour
  • 1 cup All-Purpose Flour Use gluten-free flour if needed
  • 1 large Egg Binds ingredients together
  • 1 cup Water Adjust for batter consistency
  • 1 teaspoon Baking Powder
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 1 teaspoon Black Pepper
For Frying
  • 1 cup Vegetable Oil For frying
For the Sauce
  • 4 tablespoons Soy Sauce
  • 2 tablespoons Rice Vinegar
  • 2 tablespoons Hoisin Sauce
  • 2 tablespoons Chili Sauce Adjust to spice preference
  • 1 tablespoon Sugar
  • 2 cloves Minced Garlic
  • 1 teaspoon Minced Ginger
  • 1 medium Onion Chopped
  • 1 medium Bell Pepper Chopped
  • 2 pieces Red Chilies Optional
  • 1 tablespoon Sesame Oil
For Garnish
  • 2 tablespoons Chopped Green Onions For garnish

Method
 

Step-by-Step Instructions
  1. Slice the beef sirloin or flank steak thinly against the grain into strips, about 1/4-inch thick.
  2. Combine cornstarch, all-purpose flour, baking powder, salt, and pepper in a bowl. Add egg and water, whisking until smooth.
  3. Heat vegetable oil in a frying pan over medium-high heat. Dip beef strips in batter and fry in batches for 3-4 minutes until golden brown.
  4. In a wok, heat sesame oil, sauté garlic and ginger. Add onion and bell pepper, cooking for 2 minutes.
  5. Stir in soy sauce, rice vinegar, hoisin sauce, chili sauce, and sugar. Simmer for 2 minutes.
  6. Add fried beef to the sauce, stir-frying for 2-3 minutes until coated.
  7. Transfer to a serving dish and garnish with red chilies and green onions. Serve immediately.
