Method
 

Step‑by‑Step Instructions
  1. Cut the goat cheese log into approximately 24 equal pieces. Roll each piece into smooth balls.
  2. Freeze the cheese balls for about 30 minutes to firm them up.
  3. Set up three bowls: combine flour, garlic powder, and salt in one; whisk egg and milk in the second; fill the third with panko and thyme.
  4. Coat each cheese ball in the flour mixture, then dip in the egg wash, and finally roll in the panko mixture.
  5. Freeze the coated cheese balls again for another 30 minutes.
  6. Heat canola oil to 350°F in a heavy-bottomed pot.
  7. Fry the cheese balls in batches for 30 seconds to 1 minute until golden brown.
  8. Drain on a wire rack or paper towels and sprinkle with sea salt while hot.
  9. Serve warm with honey, marinara sauce, or fig preserves.
