Step‑by‑Step Instructions for Homemade Corn Dogs
  1. Pour 2-3 inches of peanut oil into a large pot or Dutch oven, heat to 350°F over medium-high heat using a thermometer.
  2. Pat dry the hot dogs to remove excess moisture and insert a wooden stick halfway into each hot dog.
  3. In a bowl, combine cornmeal, flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt; whisk until well mixed.
  4. In another bowl, whisk buttermilk, egg, olive oil, and honey until smooth.
  5. Gradually combine wet and dry ingredients, stirring until just smooth, avoiding overmixing.
  6. Pour batter into a tall drinking glass for easy dipping.
  7. Dip each hot dog into the batter, coating it thoroughly before allowing excess to drip off.
  8. Seal the dipped corn dog in hot oil for about 5-7 seconds, then fully immerse it.
  9. Fry the corn dogs for about 3 minutes, turning occasionally until golden brown.
