Preparation Steps
  1. Combine flour, cold butter, and sugar in a mixing bowl until resembling coarse crumbs. Gradually add ice water until dough holds together. Shape into disc, wrap, and refrigerate for 30 minutes.
  2. Peel, core, and slice apples. Toss with brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and lemon juice. Let sit for 15 minutes.
  3. Preheat oven to 425°F (220°C). Roll out chilled dough and place into a 9-inch pie dish.
  4. Spoon apple mixture into the prepared crust. Drizzle with food coloring.
  5. Cover with another crust or lattice top, cut steam vents, and brush with egg or milk. Bake for 15 minutes, then reduce heat to 350°F (175°C) and bake for another 30-35 minutes.
  6. Cool for 20 minutes, then decorate with candy eyes before serving.
  7. Slice and serve warm or at room temperature, optionally with ice cream or whipped cream.
