Marinade Preparation
- In a large mixing bowl, combine za'atar seasoning, lemon juice and zest, garlic paste, tomato paste, olive oil, salt, and black pepper. Whisk until well-blended.
Chicken Preparation
- Trim any excess fat from the chicken legs and make three shallow incisions on each leg.
Marination
- Coat the chicken legs with the marinade, cover, and refrigerate for at least 2 hours.
Cooking
- Preheat your oven or air fryer to 400°F (200°C).
- Lay out the sliced onions and squeezed lemon halves on a baking tray.
- Place marinated chicken legs on top and bake for 35–45 minutes or until golden brown.
- Let the chicken rest for about 5 minutes before serving.
