Method

Step-by-Step Instructions
  1. Begin by bringing 2 cups of filtered water to a rolling boil in a saucepan over medium-high heat, which should take about 5-7 minutes.
  2. Once the water is boiling, remove the saucepan from heat and add 2 tablespoons of black tea leaves or 2 tea bags. Allow the tea to steep for exactly 5 minutes.
  3. After steeping, carefully strain the tea mixture into a bowl or pitcher, discarding any tea leaves or bags.
  4. While the tea is still warm, whisk in 2 tablespoons of unsweetened cocoa powder and 1/4 cup of sugar until fully dissolved.
  5. Let the cocoa tea mixture cool to room temperature; this should take about 10 minutes and then chill for at least 30 minutes.
  6. When you're ready to serve, fill a tall glass with ice cubes halfway. Pour in 1 cup of your preferred milk, followed by the chilled cocoa tea mixture. Stir well.
  7. For the finishing touch, sprinkle some chocolate shavings or an extra dusting of cocoa powder on top before serving.
