- In a large mixing bowl, combine ground beef, minced garlic, finely chopped onion, egg, barbecue sauce, salt, and pepper. Mix gently until just combined. Set aside for 10 minutes to meld flavors.
- Preheat your grill to medium-high heat (375°F to 400°F). It should be ready when you can hold your hand above the grates for about 4 seconds.
- Divide the beef mixture into four equal portions and shape into patties about ¾ inch thick, making a slight indentation in the center of each.
- Grill the patties on hot grill grates for 12-14 minutes, flipping halfway through. Brush with additional barbecue sauce in the last minute.
- Remove from grill and let rest for a couple of minutes. Serve patties on toasted hamburger buns with desired toppings.
