Step-by-Step Instructions for Mummy Meatloaf
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). In a mixing bowl, combine ground beef, breadcrumbs, finely chopped onion, minced garlic, egg, and herbs. Season with salt and pepper and mix gently.
  2. Transfer the meatloaf mixture to a parchment-lined baking sheet. Shape it into a loaf of about 8 inches long and 3 inches wide.
  3. Bake the shaped meatloaf for 40-45 minutes, until firm and cooked through, checking with a meat thermometer.
  4. Roll out the puff pastry on a floured surface to a rectangle that can wrap around the meatloaf.
  5. Let the baked meatloaf cool, then wrap the puff pastry, leaving one end open for a 'head'. Use strips to create bandages.
  6. Whisk together an egg with a splash of water for an egg wash. Brush this over the pastry.
  7. Bake the wrapped meatloaf at 375°F (190°C) for 20-25 minutes until the pastry is golden brown.
  8. Let the meatloaf cool slightly before adding olives or peppercorns for googly eyes.
