Ingredients
  

For the Beef
  • 4 pounds Beef Roast Chuck roast works beautifully.
  • 2 tablespoons Worcestershire Sauce
  • 1 cup Soy Sauce Low-sodium versions are recommended.
  • 1 tablespoon Garlic Powder Fresh minced garlic can be used.
  • 1 tablespoon Onion Powder
For the Broth and Seasonings
  • 1 medium Onion Sliced.
  • 4 cups Beef Broth Vegetable broth can be used instead.
  • 1 teaspoon Dried Thyme Can substitute with Italian seasoning.
  • 1 teaspoon Black Pepper Adjust according to taste.
  • 1 teaspoon Salt Adjust based on broth's saltiness.
For the Gravy
  • 2 tablespoons Cornstarch Essential for thickening.
  • 1/4 cup Cold Water For slurry.
For Serving
  • 4 slices Bread White or Texas toast.
  • 4 cups Mashed Potatoes Leaving some skins adds texture.

Method
 

Cooking Steps
  1. Slice a medium onion and place it at the bottom of your slow cooker.
  2. Place the beef roast on top of the onions and season with salt and black pepper.
  3. Pour the beef broth over the roast until it is halfway submerged, then add Worcestershire sauce and soy sauce.
  4. Sprinkle garlic powder, onion powder, dried thyme, black pepper, and additional salt over the beef.
  5. Cover and cook on LOW for about 8 hours or HIGH for 4 to 5 hours.
  6. Remove the beef and let it rest before shredding.
  7. Strain the broth to remove onion solids and set aside.
  8. Mix cornstarch with cold water to create a slurry and add to the strained broth.
  9. Bring the gravy to a simmer and cook until thickened, about 10 to 15 minutes.
  10. Serve shredded beef over bread and mashed potatoes, topped with gravy.
