- Combine one can of sweetened condensed milk and 0.5 cup of softened unsalted butter in a large mixing bowl. Blend until smooth and creamy.
- Gradually sift in 4 cups of powdered sugar while mixing on low speed for 3-5 minutes until the mixture thickens.
- Stir in 1 teaspoon of peppermint extract and add food coloring if desired, mixing until evenly distributed.
- Chill the dough in the refrigerator for 10-15 minutes if it feels too soft to handle.
- Scoop out portions of the dough and roll into 1-inch balls or use cookie cutters to shape them. Place on a parchment-lined baking sheet.
- Let the mints set at room temperature for about 1 hour until firm to the touch.
